Our finacial aid office will meet with you to discuss funding sources and payment options. We offer a number of scholarships and a work-study program. Each student’s financial needs are unique and Divne Word College will work with you to develop a plan that’s best for you.

Scholarships

Divine Word College Scholarship

At the beginning of every school year, you can apply for assistance from Divine Word College of up to $6,200 per year. Students enrolling part-time and/or auditing courses may qualify for proportionately reduced assistance.

Presidential Scholarship

This $2,300 is awarded each year to students who show promise of superior academic achievement. Two freshmen may receive this scholarship in a single year. Criteria include: a United States citizen or legal permanent resident, admission to the regular college program, top 20% of high school graduating class, a high school GPA of 3.3 or above, and participation in a college preparatory high school program.

The award is renewable each year the recipient continues to meet its guidelines.

Bishop Guillory, SVD, Scholarship

The College established this Scholarship in honor of Bishop Guillory, a 1968 graduate of Divine Word College who currently serves as the Bishop of Beaumont, Texas. The Bishop Guillory Scholarship is an annual award of $2,300 renewable each year the recipient continues to meet its guidelines. Criteria includes: A United States citizen or legal permanent resident, admission to the regular college program, and a GPA of 2.5.

Father Robert J. Flinn, SVD, Scholarship

The College established this Scholarship in honor of Father Robert J. Flinn, SVD, an accomplished educator, author, cannon lawyer, medical ethicist, and former Divine Word College trustee. The Flinn Scholarship is an annual award of $2,300 renewable each year that the recipient continues to meet the established guidelines. Criteria include: A United States citizen or legal permanent resident, admission to the regular college program, and a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Vocational Rehabilitation Assistance

In case of permanent disabilities or health problems, State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies may grant aid for rehabilitation through education. Contact the state agency of your home state for more information.

Student Insurance

Divine Word College requires that all students have medical insurance coverage. If you’re not covered by an individual or parental health plan, you must purchase medical coverage. Student financial aid can cover your insurance premium.

State, Federal, And Private Financial Aid Sources

State and federal aid is, for the most part, granted to students with financial need. This need is established when you or your parents fill out and file the form for Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the Renewal Application (FAFSA). The Divine Word College Title IV Federal School Code is 001858.

Divine Word Missionaries around the world are well known and respected as hard workers. Whether in our schools, parishes, social action apostolates or seminaries, we apply ourselves conscientiously to our assignments. While we recognize that success in ministry is ultimately dependent on the grace of God, we also recognize that little is achieved without hard work and dedicated effort. St. Paul, the patron of Divine Word College, was always known to "pull his own weight" within the communities he served. A good missionary can be counted on to meet the responsibilities shared with others.

The work-study program at Divine Word College is funded both by the U.S. government and Divine Word College. Only U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens qualify for federal financial aid; international students qualify for Divine Word College aid. The purpose of the program is to provide students with opportunities to develop serious work habits, to demonstrate their appreciation for the value of work in the context of community, and to provide a source of financial aid to those students who have financial need. Work-study is a cooperative venture between the College and the student body by which the College is able to hold down tuition costs and other fees on behalf of the students. The majority of U.S. college students participate in some form of work-study.

While attending Divine Word College, students who qualify for the work-study program may work up to ten hours per week, and sometimes more, in exceptional cases. Qualifying students may earn up to an average of $1,669 per year at an hourly rate of $5.20 or at minimum wage, whichever is higher. There are no deductions for income taxes and social security taxes while the student is enrolled.

Work-study money earned is used to cover educational expenses such as tuition, room and board, books, school related travel, and incidental expenses.
