Miramar Annual Reunion Duxbury, Massachusetts October 1999 Alumni Gather at Miramar By Jim McDermott--Miramar Class of 1950 The sun brightened the leaf colors as I drove up Rt. 24 and across Rt. 44 to Plymouth. It was a glorious day for an alumni meeting at Miramar. The pines and cranberry bogs of Carver indicated I was getting closer. When I reached Duxbury, real nostalgia set in. The Miramar Retreat grounds looked beautiful--young trees, purple and yellow mums. I commented on the beauty, and a nun walking in with me replied, "Fr. Dudink is the man responsible." President John Paulauski (Miramar '47) was well prepared with a proper agenda for our alumni meeting. Fr. Bill Kane, SVD said a short prayer remembering our recently departed members; Gerard Barry, Bob Casey, Fr. Dalzell and Dave Metz. Many topics about the future of the alumni association were discussed. Some alumni brought photo albums. One large group photo was dated 1934! The alumni meeting was a smashing success. Various classes were well represented. A number of new faces showed up. John was able to line up the alumni in two groups for a photo session--a hard task with everyone broken into small groups and reminiscing the "good ole days." The dinner bell rang. Lunch was served. We then returned to the upper conference room for a few drops of Divine Word hospitality. Fr. Bob Jones, SVD joined us and spoke about the growth and success of the retreat work that is now the focus of the ministry at Miramar. We began breaking up about 2:00 PM knowing that we had a good thing going here. Leaving the property, I glanced across the street, remembering the four years I had spend in that brick building. This get-together with fellow alumni provides an exchange of renewed spirit. Many of us now walk different roads, but all roads are paved with the same missionary attachment. The best part of the meeting, however, was the camaraderie and conversations of associates from younger days. We hope you can plan to be with us Thursday, October 5, 2000. Blessings and good cheer.
