Perrysburg Class of 1966 Chicago, Illinois July 21-23, 2000 Perrysburg Class of 1966 Meets with its Missionary The Perrysburg graduating class of 1966 spent a very memorable weekend on July 21-23 in Chicago when they gathered to honor and visit with their classmate, Father Dan Bauer, SVD, who was spending the summer on home leave from his post at Fu Jen University in Taipei, Taiwan Both the Northbrook Hilton and Techny itself served as sites for reunion events. The organizer of this special reunion was Jerry Van de Vyver, who arrived early with Greg Stapels after stopping off at a casino first. Greg won enough at the casino, and was generous enough with his winnings, to underwrite the greater part of reunion meals for all attendees. The weekend's events in honor of Father Dan included several group meals in good restaurants and a wild and wonderful karaoke party at Techny's Philippines Room. The reunionites also made their traditional visit to the Techny cemetery to pay their respects to deceased SVD's, and this year were also delighted to greet old friends at the Techny infirmary The most solemn, and probably most memorable, event of the weekend was the Mass concelebrated by Fr. Dan and his Perrysburg classmate and Provincial of the Chicago Province, Fr. Stan Uroda. The liturgy had been planned by Jerry Van de Vyver, who excelled at the task. Jerry was assisted with the music by John Sarnowski (a 1966 Girard graduate-but adopted long ago by the P-burgers) and Joe Kiffmeyer, who had traveled the longest distance to see Fr. Dan again--all the way from his home in Moab, Utah. Others who came to meet their special missionary included John's spouse, Marcia Sarnowski, and Dave and Donna Barry, with their son, Michael. Steve and Sherri Schumacher, with their sons, Ryan and Brice, attended the gathering. Knute Dresden, Joe Ambre (adopted from East Troy's class of 1966), Phil Settecase, Art Roche, Joe Green, Tom "Finibus" Richardson, and Rich Vadnal (adopted from the Girard class of 1966) with his spouse, Mary, and children, Chris, Julie, and Diane, were present. Fr. Walt Bracken, a 1963 graduate of Perrysburg, also joined the group for the karaoke party in the Philippines Room. Many who attended this special reunion in Father Dan's honor think it may have been the best ever for the Perrysburg class of 1966, which is famous for being gregarious and having large reunions with diverse activities. Plans are already being made for next year's affair, however, which will mark the group's 35th anniversary. The plans so far are to have as many of the graduates' family members as possible attend, simply because everyone so much enjoyed the presence of the younger set at Fr. Dan's gathering. Attendees:
