St. Augustine's 4^th Annual Reunion

        The Fourth Annual Alumni Reunion of St. Augustine Seminary took place at the Bay October 13-15, 2000. This year the St. Augustine's Alumni Advisory Board, elected last year to lead the Alumni Association, met on Friday morning. The meeting covered SVD associate membership, fundraising, encouraging current members to locate missing alumni, and a more formal structure for the Alumni Association. Members attending the Advisory Board meeting were Fr. Bob Kelly, SVD and Charles Prejean, Sr., as Co-chairs, Robert Antwine, Rev. Mr. Leon Bechet and Patrick Journet.

        The reunion began Friday evening with a social prepared by Frs. Ray Lennon, SVD, and Stephen Schuler, SVD. Classmates and friends Earl Floyd, Harry Hill, and Paul Mention met for the first time in 50 years. It was great to see the rekindling of friendship after so many years apart.

        Saturday began with a coffee-and-donuts hour in the Retreat Center Annex. More Alumni members joined us that day. It was good to see Edwin Cabey, Felix Casimir, and Reynold Schnyder. The alumni meeting began with a prayer, followed by discussion of the work of the Alumni Advisory Board during the past year. All were saddened to hear of Kruegar Normand's hospitalization the previous day in New Orleans, and the recent deaths of Daniel Tracy and Fr. Arthur Winters, SVD.

        After a presentation by Charles Prejean on the Advisory Board Meetings, all alumni introduced themselves and told a little history about their education at St. Augustine Seminary and their present work and ministry in the Church. All alumni were extremely thankful for the preparation the SVD gave them in the seminary.

        Following a tour of the grotto by Fr. Thaddeus Boucree, SVD, afternoon meetings began with small group discussions by various committees. A plenary session followed with reports from the small group meetings. Another social Saturday evening featured an alumni-sponsored raffle. A mouth-watering dinner by Stephano, Ramon, Florencia and volunteers was on the menu. It was a delightful end to a wonderful day.

        Sunday morning began with Mass with Bishop Dominic Carmon, SVD, assisted by Deacons Leon Bechet and Eugene LeBoeuf. Earl Boyd of California sang a Communion hymn, and all Alumni sang the "Salve Regina" as a hymn of praise and thanksgiving. Musicians Patrick Journet and Winfield Ledet were joined by the St. Augustine Sunday Choir.
