4^th Annual SVD Alumni Association Reunion Picnic

Alumni Gather at Techny

        On Sunday, June 3, 2001 alumni from around the country gathered at Techny. They came from Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Iowa to converge on the land once known as Shermerville, Illinois. Over twenty alumni with family members enjoyed a prayerful liturgy celebrated by Fr. Jim Bergin, SVD, in the African Chapel at Divine Word International. The mass was followed by a cookout on the picnic grounds of the seminary at Techny.

        While the cool, damp weather, left over from a series of cold and rainy days, may have kept a few people away, those who attended enjoyed the friendship of other alumni. Whether it was a chat at a picnic table, a laugh while hitting golf balls or catching your breath after earning a great point on the tennis court, alumni were able to experience again the wonderment of community life. The days of Family Feast and other community celebrations have not been celebrated by many alumni who married or did not join the order. But a good ol' fashioned picnic on the grounds of a seminary, with some games to boot, always brings back the memories of intramural sports, Family Feast, and other community events from days long ago. Every once in awhile, one must relive the past by experiencing such an alumni reunion today. Mark your calendar for June 2002, and plan to attend next year's fifth Annual SVD Alumni Picnic at Techny for your chance to reminisce.
