DWC Hosts Eighty-Fifth Commencement

Thirteen Graduate with BA Degrees

        With the theme "Journey of Faith," thirteen young men received their BA Degrees in the Divine Word College Chapel in Epworth, Iowa. May 12, 2001 marked a milestone in the faith journey of these men. While completing one stage of their formation program, they begin another. Eight of the thirteen will continue their studies with the SVD by entering the novitiate at Techny in August. One graduate was already an SVD in temporary vows and will continue his studies in theology at the Theologate in Chicago. The other four will continue their journey of faith in new directions as they continue to discern their vocations.

        The conferral of the academic degrees was made by the President of Divine Word College, Fr. Mike Hutchins, SVD, and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Fr. Ken Anich, SVD. This followed the valedictory address given by Frt. Linyong Peter Zhai, SVD, and the commencement address given by Fr. Martin Padovani, SVD. During their speeches, both Peter and Fr. Martin expressed the need for the graduates to go forth, continue to grow in their faith, and make a difference in the world. Our prayers go with these young men that they will have the courage to persevere in following the path of their calling.
